About Baba Tree Basket Co.

"Welcome customers! Thank you for visiting our website.

After blazing a trail for ten years with regards to quality and fair trade in the Bolgatanga basket industry, The Baba Tree Basket Company is taking a break. We are experiencing bureaucratic challenges in Ghana and they must  be dealt with before we can start trading again.

Please check our home page periodically for updates as to when we will resume trading. If you wish, you may write to us at info@thebabatree.com and leave your contact information with us. We will be checking our company emails once a week between May 24th and July 24th while we're on a retreat in India.

Thank you again for visiting us and we look forward to doing business with you in the future."

The Baba Tree Basket Company sells the highest quality, hand woven, fairly traded baskets from Bolgatanga, Ghana on the market today. We are the best. Simple.

We live in Bolgatanga and handpick only the highest quality baskets that come to us. They are tested for strength, quality of weave and neatness of finish. As you will see our colours are amazing and the handles on our baskets are guaranteed against breakage for two years.

This venture is about US-ALL OF US and it’s time to joyfully stand up: for the planet that sustains us, for ethical business, for ourselves and each other.

Our weavers, having been left out of the industry’s equation for over forty years, receive the highest price available for a basket in Bolgatanga (which is still not enough!) You, our customer, get the finest handmade product of its type from the region and we, at The Baba Tree, receive our share of the deal and are able to be in service whilst handling thousands of beautiful baskets every year. Its about doing business that brings honour to all involved. We ARE making an impact! And we will do better….

Buy a basket from us. Buy many baskets from us. There is a myriad of uses 108 uses for our baskets whether you want to use them in lieu of plastic bags for groceries, adorn your loft or living room or, should the need arise, placate your mother in law by gifting her with one of these hand woven beauties. They make great gifts for all occasions and lets face it—owning one of these functional works of art is your ticket into the "in crowd" (with tongue firmly planted in cheek).

The Baba Tree Basket Company is proud to play a small part in our much needed global transformation and we invite you to do the same by trading with us. With every basket you purchase from us, YOU make a positive impact on a very impoverished part of the world and allow us to do the same.

We sincerely hope that you will treasure these hand woven works of art for years to come. When they eventually wear out, throw them in the compost to enrich the earth from which they came.

Welcome to the Basket Renaissance!

About the Baba Tree

In the shade of the Baobab Tree is a place where people meet, conduct business, work and discuss village issues. In our logo the roots of the tree represent digging deep, going within. The branches symbolize reaching high and extending to all of humanity. The golden orb represents humanity's journey into the Golden Age, The Age of Oneness.                The Baba Tree name is courtesy of Barry Barker.
